West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) and West Midlands Local Pharmaceutical Committees are partnering with West of England and South West AHSNs to support Community Pharmacy with electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD).

Join the webinar on Thursday July 23rd from 19:00-20:00

The aim of the webinar is to raise awareness of eRD, highlight implementation resources and share learning across our systems.

As part of resilience efforts around COVID-19, NHS England have encouraged practices to optimise the benefits of Electronic Prescription Services (EPS) in two key ways:

• Switching patients still receiving paper prescriptions to EPS.
• Utilising electronic repeat dispensing (eRD) for suitable patients.

This webinar is particularly aimed at Community Pharmacy to support Community Pharmacists refresh their knowledge and to get the best from the increase in eRD anticipated due to this and other current initiatives.

A new Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) for the first part of 2020/21 has been announced. The focus of the scheme is ensuring community pharmacy contractors and their teams have put in place all reasonable measures to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, protecting both themselves and the people using their services.

This scheme and the second part of PQS in 2020/21, which is being developed for the second half of the year, replace the original 2020/21 scheme that PSNC had agreed with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I), and which, prior to the start of the pandemic, had been due to commence in April 2020.

There are a number of resources available for Pharmacy Contractors below:

NHS PQS 2020/21 Part 1 Essential Criteria Checklist

All these resources have been added to the LPC website as well on this new PAGE under the New Contract tab.

March 19th update: Following a change in the case definition, to remove the link to travel history or contact with confirmed cases, community pharmacies are now advised to display anew Public Health England (PHE) poster. The new poster is available from the PHE campaign resources hub. The posters below will now have to be replaced.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the posters for display have been updated. Community pharmacies are now advised to display the following TWO PHE posters so they are visible to people seeking to enter the premises:

These posters can be downloaded from the PHE campaign resources hub. The previously displayed entry posters should be removed.

NHSE&I have stated that their aim is for all future update letters to the professions will be published on a Friday from now onwards. They will be published on the NHSE&I COVID-19 primary care page, which provides links to all the key documents and resources for primary care teams.

As previously highlighted, free of charge packs of PPE will be distributed direct to pharmacies from the PHE stockpile later this week or earlier next week; the packs will contain 50 masks, 200 aprons and 100 pairs of gloves. The PPE is only for use in the pharmacy as advised in the NHSE&I SOP – PPE only needs to be used if you are entering a room in an emergency, where an infected/possibly infected patient is isolated and when decontaminating a room where such a patient has been present (in this case the PPE is to protect the worker from the cleaning products being used).

As a consequence of this, the need for community pharmacies to have to use PPE, at this time, is low; the guidance on PPE use will be kept under review as the pandemic progresses.

Wherever possible, a patient presenting in the pharmacy with possible COVID-19 infection should be immediately told to return home and then access NHS 111 online or call NHS 111 (calling being a secondary option to online access) in order that the pharmacy does not have the increased risk of dealing with an isolated patient in the consultation room and the subsequent need for decontamination.

All these resources and information are also available to access from the LPC’s dedicated COVID-19 page HERE.

Public Health England (PHE), with the support of NHS England, launched a new national campaign to encourage all eligible women to not ignore their cervical screening invite or if they have missed their last cervical screening, to book an appointment with their GP practice.

This national campaign runs from 5th March – 28th April. It’s been suggested by public health departments that in Coventry and Warwickshire the campaign is focused on the week commencing 8th April for maximum coordinated impact, but of course, pharmacies are free to choose when they wish to participate.

This is NOT a mandated campaign but an important one nevertheless, which can save many lives, so we urge pharmacies to promote the initiative.

Resource materials can be ordered from PHE on the following links:

Pharmacy Packs

Although the Pharmacy Packs seem to be out of stock at the moment, you can still order the individual materials and some digital resources are also available to download.

Here’s a direct link to the Pharmacy Briefing Sheet, which you might find useful.

Links to these campaign resources are also available on our WEBSITE.

We hope you will be able to support this important health campaign.
