The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) enables prescriptions to be sent electronically from the GP practice to the pharmacy and then on to the Pricing Authority for payment. It has had a phased roll out. EPS1, where the paper prescriptions remain the legal prescription but are barcoded, rolled out initially. EPS2, which supports the transmission of an electronic prescription to a designated pharmacy of the patient’s choosing, is now complete and the next phase will be the release of EPS3

The Prescription Tracker is a simple EPS “Where’s my prescription” way of checking the status of a prescription in the event of a patient arriving for a prescription that does not appear to be available.
You will need a secure N3 connection to access the site.

The NHS Summary Care Record (SCR) is an electronic summary of key clinical information (including medicines, allergies and adverse reactions) about a patient, sourced from the GP record. It is used by authorised healthcare professionals, with the patient’s consent, to support their care and treatment.
Pharmacy teams can benefit by being able to:
- Check allergies to prevent prescribing errors
- Check current medications prescribed for emergency supply purposes
- Check eligibility for services such as a free flu jab
The vision is that by 2017 all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will recognise that access to SCR will be an essential tool to help deliver high quality care. Use of the information within SCR will help to improve the efficiency of delivery, information decision making and help to ensure safer outcomes. Whilst it is a ‘read only’ document presently, it is hoped that this will continue to be developed.
Following a successful pilot of SCR, Arden & GEM CSU have been commissioned locally to manage the implementation of the SCR. The Arden & GEM CSU Project team will be responsible in providing each pharmacy with all the required tools and information in order to facilitate the use of SCR.
Multiple pharmacies have taken responsibility of implementing SCR internally and Arden & GEM CSU are not providing support to the following pharmacy groups: LloydsPharmacy, Boots, Day Lewis, Dean & Smeadley, Rowlands, Safedale Ltd, Cohens Group, Tesco, Manor Pharmacy, Cox & Robinson, Superdrug, H I Weldicks, Knights, Morrisons
There are some key requirements that pharmacies will need to complete in order to get access to SCR. Only registered pharmacists and registered pharmacy technicians will be allowed to view SCR in their pharmacy.
Each pharmacy will need to have in place and complete the following:
- Attend face to face engagement meeting with the SCR project team (one representative per pharmacy)
- CPPE on-line accredited training
- Completion of the Acceptable User Agreement (AUA)
- Privacy Officer (PO) in place for your pharmacy
